Abbatiale Saint Pierre et Paul

The church of Saints-Pierre-et-Paul, a former abbey church and now a Catholic church, features a wide variety of styles: the "confessio" contains remains that may date back to the 9th century, with the foundations of a Roman temple apse; the chevet chapels, choir, transept and part of the nave are Romanesque and transitional Romanesque; the western bays of the nave are Gothic; and the massive façade is Baroque. The harmoniously proportioned whole is 66 meters long.

Inside the church, the following items stand out: the baptismal font (12th century), the reliquary tomb of Saint Adelphe (18th century), the Holy Sepulchre (1478), the four polychrome wooden statues (15th century), two of which depict the Virgin and Child, the wainscoting and choir stalls from the Cistercian convent of Sturzelbronn (18th century).

The church is also home to the remarkable tapestries of Saint-Adelphe. Woven in wool, gold and silk threads in the early 15th century by two parallel workshops, and comprising four panels with a total length of 20 meters, they depict 165 characters and illustrate the legendary life of the saint. Listed as a Historic Monument, they are preserved in the Saint-Sébastien chapel (visible during guided tours only).
