Lac d'Entzheim

The Entzheim pond was artificially created around 1760 by local residents at a site known as "D?Lehmelecher" (the clay holes). As the name suggests, it had been used as a clay quarry to prepare the cob needed to build half-timbered houses. When the old loessières were no longer exploited, they were transformed into a lake. For a long time, the lake served as a water reserve for the village in the event of fire.
Since 1841, its banks and islets have been redeveloped on several occasions. The banks have been reshaped and lined with a magnificent footpath. The lake is embellished by a fountain.
It's a popular spot for anglers and walkers, and a favorite wedding photo location for many young couples!
