The first Montblanc writing instrument, launched in 1909, eliminated the risk of ink stains. It was therefore nicknamed "Red and Black", in reference to the safest strategy for playing roulette: betting on both red and black. The following year, the company was christened Montblanc, in homage not only to the highest peak in the European Alps, but also to its founders? vision of excellence and spirit of innovation. The six-pointed white star representing the six snow-covered glaciers of this majestic mountain became the company?s emblem. Since then, it has adorned all Montblanc writing instruments.
