The Gabelou was a customs officer in charge of the surveillance of salt. Hence the name of this 29.5 km trail (yellow markings) for hiking and mountain biking linking Salins les Bains and Arc et Senans.
The Gabelous trail follows approximately the historical route of the brine pipeline, a double wooden pipe that allowed the Royal Salt Works of Arc et Senans to receive the brine extracted from the Salt Works of Salins les Bains.
The explanatory panels are also accessible, at various points, by car.
You will drive along the Loue and the Furieuse by the Graduations building, Champagne-sur-Loue, Port-Lesney, Rennes-sur-Loue and Chapelle-sur-Furieuse.
