Created in 2020 in the Plaine district of Marseille, SOMA is a hybrid art center, hosting a radical program that brings together visual arts, performance, dance, music and cinema.
It's a territory to be invested in, with invited artists and researchers at its heart, encouraged to re-invent the place with poetry and thought, whatever the chosen medium.
Its raw, empty space questions the idea of necessity in the act of creation, and offers residents a return to an experimental approach, a space-time conducive to experimentation, and a re-evaluation of the processes involved in producing a work of art.
SOMA is also a bar, conceived as an interface and a tool for breaking down barriers. By hosting conferences, debates and screenings, as well as more festive events such as DJ sets and concerts, it opens up to the territory it involves. It creates a new space for living and sharing, promoting access to knowledge and enabling everyone to take part in inventing the world of tomorrow.
