Buswiller is a village in the Bas-Rhin department, 30 km northwest of Strasbourg, equidistant from Haguenau and Saverne, and close to Val-de-Moder and Bouxwiller.
Nestled in the sub-Vosgesian hills at an average altitude of 225 m, the village covers an area of 230 ha.
The first mention of the village dates back to 784, when it appears in a document from Wissembourg Abbey under the name "Buusso vilare". The village subsequently bore the names Busselwilre, Bussenwiller, Bossweiler and Büsweiler.
Since 1698, Buswiller has belonged half to the Gayling von Altheim family. The other half had belonged to the Lichtenbergs since 1453, then to the Hanau-Lichtenbergs in 1480, but was bought by the Gaylings in the early 18th century. Until the French Revolution, they were the sole masters of Buswiller.
