Château de Mâlain

When you arrive in Mâlain, you can clearly see the ruins of the castle. Perched on a rock detached from the Mâlain fault and dominating the village from its imposing ruins, the castle is a seigniory attested to as early as the 11th century. The families who successively occupied it from its origins to the Revolution (the Sombernons, the Montagues, the Beaufremonts, the Mâlains, the Brulards and the Vichys) played important roles in Burgundy on several occasions, and even at the King's court. Over the last forty years, the castle has been gradually restored by the Mesmont Archaeological Group (GAM). This medieval fortress on the rocky outcrop overlooking the village of Mâlain has undergone a number of restorations and archaeological excavations, bringing the castle back to life.
