“Siyotanka, the Singing Stick” is a project which aims to discover the infinite world of flutes around the world, their diversity, like the diversity of the people who make and play them, the richness of their timbres , their cultural environment. It is a tale of dreams, tolerance and peace.
It is the story of a king who, in anticipation of his succession, sends his two sons to travel around the world with a mission: to bring back pieces of wood from each country visited and give them life by shaping them. One builds weapons to strike enemies, barriers to protect themselves from strangers. The other... makes flutes, and returns from each country with a friend. The project ends with the public production of the musical tale with the students and Annie Ploquin-Rignol.
During the show, the 55 students will play world music on their transverse flute, but also certain world flutes to which they have been introduced.
