The village of Surbourg is known as the third stop on the Route Romane d?Alsace. The former collegiate church of Saint-Arbogast dates from the 1st half of the 11th century (early Alsatian Romanesque). It was built on the site of Alsace?s oldest abbey.
Surbourg has been home to a large Jewish community since 1550, but this has now disappeared. Although the synagogue was destroyed, a trace of their existence can still be seen on a house dating from 1724 at 4 rue du Général-Leclerc. Hebrew inscriptions can be seen.
To get to the village, you can take the Strasbourg ? Haguenau ? Wissembourg railway line and get off at Hoelschloch-Surbourg station.
