GRANGES FORAINES

Also known as bordes, the barns are stable barns that are an integral part of the daily operation of livestock farms in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Often located on hay meadows, they are generally situated between the villages (headquarters of the livestock farms) and the herds' summer pasture areas (transhumance areas).
They are used to store the hay mown on the adjoining meadows, and are also used to shelter the livestock during the intermediate periods in spring (ascent to the summer pastures) and autumn (descent from the summer pastures)
The most accessible barns in our area are found on the Saugué and Coumély plateaus.
