In choosing to create the play, author and director Joël Pommerat wanted to adapt and rewrite Pagnol?s text without betraying it. The actors improvised around the story and projected it into today?s Marseille.
From now on, César runs a bakery-sandwich shop, Fanny works in a hairdressing salon and Panisse owns a scooter store. The Marseilles language may have changed over the centuries, but the message remains the same, and so does the dilemma. Love it or leave it, Marius, you've got to choose. Peuchère!
A theatrical creation by Joël Pommerat freely inspired
by Marcel Pagnol, in collaboration with Caroline Guiela Nguyen and Jean Ruimi.
