Holtzwihr

The village was founded by the Franks and first mentioned in 735 as Lilenselida. During the Middle Ages, the fertile wetlands surrounding the village were administered by various orders and convents. The village was largely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and in 1945 during the French offensive to liberate Colmar. It later became prosperous thanks to the mechanized cultivation of cabbage for sauerkraut.
