Rangen

Rangen is located to the northwest of all the communes and has a population of 186, making it a sparsely populated commune. As a result, it offers a calm, peaceful setting surrounded by nature and isolated from the dynamics of the larger towns, with typical Alsatian charm. Rangen has an ancient past, with a Merovingian cemetery discovered during excavations in the 19th century, testifying to its longevity.
The church of Saint-Martin is considered one of the oldest in the region, dating back to the 10th century. Elements of the 12th century can be seen. The building was destroyed by fire in 1981, and the local people rallied round to rebuild it - a testament to the mutual help and support of this friendly little village. In 2004, a washhouse of unknown origin was renovated by the commune, which is now planning to enhance it. A remarkable oak tree, around 150 years old, stands near the Rangen church. Although it is located on private property, it is well worth a visit. Since 2013, this village has been home to France?s favorite house, an 18th-century farmhouse typical of Alsatian architecture, ?La Ferme Marie? This farmhouse is a calling card for the region, with its old-world ambience.
