The village of Zehnacker has 219 inhabitants. The town was first mentioned in 739. In the 12th century, it became the property of the Abbey of Marmoutier. In 1513, Zehnacker became the property of the city of Strasbourg until the French Revolution.
Nicknamed the village of the "ten fields" or the "tithe field", Zehnacker became part of the rural territory of the city of Strasbourg in 1503, which explains why its inhabitants adopted the Reformation in the first half of the 16th century. A Protestant enclave in the midst of Catholic villages, the 1724 presbytery next to the church is an imposing reminder of this past. Protestants and Catholics lived together in the same church: a simultaneum was established in 1686, until a new church was built in 1852.
Notre-Dame church is located on the church square in the center of the village. A basilica church already existed in the 8th century, attesting to a long-standing presence on Zehnacker land.
